The North Melbourne Football Club, also known as the Kangaroos, is the fourth oldest Australian rules football club. Based at Aegis Park in the inner Melbourne suburb of North Melbourne, the Club was founded in 1869.
The North Melbourne Football Club’s IT systems are obliged to comply with the AFL’s standard for data security management and disaster recovery. These systems are fundamental to the Club’s support of the team, staff, members and sponsors, and so it was crucial for them to meet these obligations. However, the Club was concerned that an effective data recovery solution was out of its reach, owing to both the financial requirements and the availability of skills and resources. As things stood, the Club relied heavily on IT contractors to support its desktops and systems, and there was little time for proactive operational support of the servers and storage.
Interactive, a Club sponsor for North Melbourne, designed a cloud-based solution that was both cost-effective and perfectly in line with North Melbourne’s needs. Working closely with the Club’s IT service provider, Interactive migrated the Club’s systems ‘into the cloud’, hosting them within its world class Port Melbourne Data Centre that offers high levels of security, power and communications redundancy. The systems and data are now fully managed and monitored by sophisticated automated systems 24 hours a day, while Interactive’s highly experienced team of support engineers are always on hand to resolve any issues or enact changes. With the automated backup and archiving, not only has the Club been able to meet its risk obligations to the AFL, but the Club’s staff and IT contractors have been freed to focus on the business of football.
The cloud-based solution Interactive designed for us precisely meets our needs and is an extremely cost effective way to go for our size of organisation.Cameron Vale, Chief Operating Officer
